Justice Varma’s Case Is the Mirror of India’s Bar and Bench.

Justice Varma was brought from Allahabad to Delhi for reasons best known only to those who brought him. The talk in Delhi is that someone told him to keep the cash which he took as bribe at Varma’s outhouse till it was taken away by a Hawala conduit. Something which would have worked smoothly went haywire when the sacks of currency caught fire due to a short circuit. A couple of months later, huge volumes of currency were reportedly found at the farm house of a lady judge of Delhi High Court whose husband is a senior advocate. But not a single high-flying lawyer sought registration of an FIR and investigation of the case. Kapil Sibal and company came in support of Justice Varma even without a veil. Bhushan remained silent. My humble self was the only soul who sought registration of an FIR and investigation.
Varma’s case is the mirror of the Indian judiciary and the elite lobby of lawyers and judges, dynasties who dominate and control the bar and the bench. Only the less privileged sections of the bar came to support me on my demand for registration of an FIR.
The Gen Z movement has shaken the Government in a manner one could never have imagined a few months back. The time for a similar movement for judicial reforms is long overdue. Support NLC- support reforms.
