Modiji has been a remarkable success in many areas and, in particular, in digitalization of the economy and on foreign policy and in particular in dealing with Pakistan.

However, when it comes to combating judicial corruption and improbity and in bringing judicial reforms, he has been a monumental failure. Modi ji won the hearts even of critics when he could amend the Constitution and enact the NJAC. But he had as his Attorney General, Mr. Rohatgi, wholly unfit for the job. The Supreme Court quashed NJAC.Those who followed Mr Rohatgi proved to be equally unworthy for their job.

Today, we have in Mr. Tushar Mehta an apology for a Solicitor General who would utter “I bow down” without any rhyme or reason. The very fact that Modi ji went to the residence of Chief Justice Chandrachud for aarti, to placate him, made many like my humble self, who saw in him the Messiah absolute disappointed. Many of my fellow campaigners for judicial reforms blame the AG and SG for the PM placating the judges because Modiji, being a layman, would have gone entirely by the advice of his legal advisors.

I am sure Modi ji will realize that he enjoys far greater credibility than the judges, who are unelected, and that the will of the people reflected by an Act of Parliament is unassailable unless it is ultra vires of the Constitution.Modi did a great disservice to the nation by silently accepting the judgment in the NJAC case which aborted the will of the people. This grave error ought to be corrected, for it cannot brook any delay.

The Government should support my Writ Petition seeking reconsideration of the NJAC judgment. I am sure the Government would do it, for the voice of the people is the voice of God. The nation demand NJAC be brought back.
